In my first thought I am amazed. They have a well laid out website, tons of useful links, and great information. It is literally the utopia of Blackberry Information. It has vendors listed for so many pieces of software it’s crazy. They also have accessories galore, blogs, and product reviews. I really think if your a blackberry user you should go check it out.

The Digital Age

August 31, 2006

I am a network engineer and have been for the last five years. In I.T. we can become complacent. I know I have been that way for a while. I made a promise to myself recently to expand my present knowledge into area outside my comfort zone. So I started this blog on wordpress. I am trying to learn to do higher end web pages. I even am re-certifying my CCNA and MCSE . However as I read the new posts to lot of my favorite blogs, I have seen so many developments technology wise.

Toshiba has come out with a 16GB flash drive. A british engineering firm has modified a BMW Mini with a four new engines, transmission, battery, and braking system. The braking system returns energy to the batteries. The engines are built into the wheel wells. This thing will out accelerate a lot of high end cars. The question will be how much will it cost?

Nokia just released the new N80 to compete with the Treo. I think there engineer overlooked one aspect. A full qwerty keyboard. This is the one biggest appeals of the Treo, Blackberry, Motorola Q, and various other Smart Phones. Keep working on it Nokia you’ll get there. Now I will give them this it does have Voip ( Voice over IP) and wifi which no of the above mention phones have.  The new Treo Lennon and Nitro are supposed to have Wifi. We will see.

The Future

August 30, 2006

I know some of you have seen Minority Report. Well do you remember when he is walking through the transit station and he is being marketed to by his retinal scan. Now we may not be to that point yet, but we all have cell phones. We will say about 55% have blue-tooth capabilities. Now CBS is setting it up at New York’s Grand Central Station to beam via blue-tooth connection to blue-tooth enabled phones clips of season premiers. You do have to accept the message to view it. I am sure if this goes well they will move this type of advertising to the malls. Coupons, seasonal lines, and various sales going on will all be beamed to your phone. Here it comes the “future”.

Traffic-Atlanta

August 29, 2006

I don’t even know where to start. I drive 45 minutes to and from work four times a week. So I travel down I-575 to I75 South to the airport. Then back after work. I took the Georgia State driver’s license test when I was 16. Now I don’t know if the book has changed, but how I remember it is, “slower traffic keeps right.” I know that semi-tractor trailers do dominate the first two lanes. However, when a car is going faster than you move right you pass on the left. This is simple  not complicated by any means. You think this happens here yeah right! You have people on their cell phones doing 55 in far left lane gabbing away. I have nothing against cell phones or using them in the car. I do think we as a state should mandate car kits or a headset. This allows both hands on the wheels and your eyes in a straight ahead position not leaned over cause your can use your neck as a crutch to yap. One more thing, blinkers are not optional on all vehicles use them. It’s for everyone’s safety. Maybe we can find peace when cars drive themselves.

My newest Toy

August 29, 2006

Last week I recieved my new Blackberry 8700c. I love this device. It allows you to keep in touch with email, works a phone of course. It has applications you can download such as Berry411, Fidelty Anywhere, and Google Maps. It allows me to do things I normally need my laptop for. I had a treo 650 when it came out. It was rigid it in use and all the applications I wanted for it cost $20, $30, and $50 dollars. It’s not that I didn’t have the money. I just switch phones too many times to make that kind of investment. I hated having to use a stylus especially when your driving and I know you have the toggle joystick. It would freeze and act sluggish. So if your thinking about a phone consider a blackberry. I promise you won’t regret it.
